Of the eight pilots awarded, seven came from early-stage investigators, seven were from female researchers. Four Pilot Investigators (50%) identified as AI/AN. Projects included epidemiological and intervention studies with a good geographical distribution, advancements in careers, and successes. Seven of the eight pilots completed study procedures, data analysis, and dissemination of results.
After receiving their NCARE Pilot Project funding, Pilot Investigators submitted 39 grant proposals and 28 (71%) of these were funded. Four of the eight received subsequent NIH funding as PIs.


NCARE Pilot Investigators have published 154 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 13 directly related to Pilot Projects and conducted 23 peer-reviewed presentations, 3 directly related to their Pilot Projects.
