Status: Current
Grant Start: 08/01/2017
Grant End: 05/31/2022
The Collaborative Hub to Reduce Burden of Suicide Among Urban Indian and Alaska Native Youth (SUNDANCE) is a multi-stage study to evaluate three distinct aspects of screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) as an approach to suicide prevention in urban American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) young adults. Our goals are to evaluate existing SBIRT programs in urban Native primary care organizations to identify and address factors that affect implementation and subsequent prevention of suicide among their AI/AN youth and young adult patients (SBIRT component). SUNDANCE will then conduct a randomized control trial of the effectiveness of enhancing these SBIRT programs by sending caring text messages to increase resilience through social connectedness and engagement and thereby reduce suicidal ideation, attempts, and hospitalizations (RCT component).
