Building Capacity for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research in Rural Washington

Status: Current

Grant Start: 10/01/2021

Grant End: 10/01/2023

The goal of this project is to create a Community Advisory Board of patients and providers that represents rural and Tribal communities across Washington State. Rural and Tribal communities are dispersed across Washington State and the surrounding areas, and the COVID-19 pandemic has often made in-person engagement impossible. The Board’s work includes establishing a virtual, cloud-based communication platform that links Board members with each other and with Washington State University’s practice-based research network, Northwest Health Education Research Outcomes Network (NW HERON) and allows for collaboration virtually. This collaborative Board will provide critical information to NW HERON to generate research questions on health concerns important to Board members, starting with COVID-19. The aim for this Board is to become part of a state-wide health care infrastructure that informs the work of NW HERON and provides rural and Tribal communities with a voice on important health issues that affect them disproportionately.
