Karen Smiley, MSN, RN, is a Research Assistant with the Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH). She assists with the Engaging Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders and Activating Communities to Take Steps (ENACTS) study. Karen has a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (with an emphasis in Latin American Studies), a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Washington (UW), and she recently obtained a Master of Nursing through Western Governors University. Karen has worked as a medical assistant in central Mexico, a cardiothoracic nurse at the UW Medical Center, and, more recently, as a public-school nurse.
